  • Am I the j**k for calling the cops on my aunt who stole my car for a "Family Vacation"?

"They found her in a small town enjoying a vacation with some friends"
  • I am 19 years old, my aunt has always been somewhat unpredictable. One summer morning, I woke up to find my car missing. Panic set in as I had no idea where it could be. After a
  • frantic search, I received a text from my aunt saying she had taken my car for a family vacation and would be back in a week.

  • I was furious. She had not asked or even hinted that she needed it. My car was my pride and joy, not to mention my only means of transportation.
  • I tried calling her, but she not pick up. Days turned into a blur of frustration and worry. I had no idea where she was or what she was doing with my car. I felt helpless and angry. Finally, I decided enough is enough and called the police to report it stolen.
  • A few days later, the police found her in a small town enjoying a vacation with some friends. She was arrested and charged with theft. The court sentenced her to
  • one month in jail. It was one of the hardest decisions I ever had to make, but I felt it was necessary to set boundaries and show that her actions had consequences.
  • POLICE 911 GPP 216
  • The whole situation left me feeling conflicted. On one hand, I felt guilty for putting my aunt in jail. was family, after all. On the other hand, I knew I had to stand up for myself and my property. It was a harsh lesson for both of us, but it ultimately strengthened my resolve.
  • OverRice2524 Bet your aunt never again stole someone's vehicle. Good for you for giving her a life lesson in stealing. Consequences
  • redelectro7 In what world would you be thej ? ETA: Also how would your aunt have been able to get the car? Did she have the keys?
  • ben_kosar NTA sounds like a - backwards a family to me if this is considered OK. Also check your credit.
  • Wandering_aimlessly9 So your aunt stole your vehicle. Then thought she'd make it ok by texting and saying "I took it". She made it easy on the cops lol. She admitted to theft. We need to get over the family forgives family bc family. That's why there are so many toxic family members.
  • Fioreborn NTA She stole your car.
  • PikaGurl332 You didn't put her in jail, her own actions put her in jail. NTJ
  • Ggeunther ΝΤΑ Good for you. If she can't be bothered to communicate with a 'close' family member, then she isn't a close family member. I would have done the same thing, except it would have happened on day one. Theft from family is still theft.
  • countryboy1101 NTJ and I would sue her for the wear and tear and mental distress
  • Kookaburra8 NTA, and she (not you) put herself in jail. Get that part straight. Her actions did it, caused you emotional harm and grief, all bc she was too cheap to get a rental for what, $300? She stranded you, made it inconvenient for you, all because the wanted to benefit herself, at your expense. Screw her.
  • Xylorgos Good for you for calling the police! Your car had been stolen, so that's what you do. You're aunt is an idiot. Don't feel bad for helping her to learn an important lesson she should have learned when she was 5 years old.
